Empowering a sub/bottom to communicate with the Dom/Top of the scene, using colors like a traffic light (Green, Yellow & Red) to convey feedback using color codes. A Dom/Top can ask a sub/bottom what color they are at to determine what to do next. This method helps prevent the scene from breaking into a discussion, instead offering simple quick feedback to keep the vibe intact. This is meant to increase the enjoyment of play by enabling simple communication between play partners, allowing exploration of limits and taking play into exciting new territory through feedback and controlled progression of play. This is completely customizable, however, we suggest using the following colors as prescribed below in the beginning before customizing. These include the expanded use of colors that go beyond just green, yellow & red:
RED:
CONSENT HAS BEEN WITHDRAWN, all play
must STOP IMMEDIATELY! Release play partner from any
and all bonds or restrictions.
PURPLE:
An overwhelming emotional response and/or
trigger has occurred.
STOP PLAY, free your play partner,
then check in.
BLUE:
There is a medical issue occurring.
ALL PLAY MUST STOP and the bottom must be freed.
Check in and call 911 if needed.
YELLOW:
SLOW DOWN. DO NOT PUSH FORWARD!
Check in with your play partner and ask how to
proceed with play. In this case, play doesn’t necessarily
have to stop.
GOLD:
Everything you’re doing is working,
keep doing whatever you are doing!
GREEN:
Continue moving forward as NEGOTIATED.
Remember:
- Negotiate how to use the Kinky Color Code system before play. Define each color to what works best for the scene or your dynamic!
- Consent is required for anything and everything in play, green never means “do whatever you want”.
- Not stopping play when the color safe word is called is a criminal act, the play is no longer consensual.
- This color code system does not substitute for negotiation. Never assume you are allowed to do something in a scene that you haven’t discussed beforehand, always use D.I.A.P. – “Did I ask Permission?”. If you didn’t ask, it is a no for the scene.
